Throughout April I made three or four visits to two Tulip fields in the Norfolk countryside (UK), this year was apparently a really good year for the Tulips because of all the rain we had here. The rain made shooting a little difficult as I couldn’t always get the conditions I wanted and the window for opportunity is quite small as the flowers are soon de-headed to allow more of the energy to go into the bulbs. Here are a few of my favourite images from the shoots.
I adore the occasional jarring intruder — the one that doesn’t match the others.
Oftentimes, that’s exactly how I feel in a crowd…like the only one who doesn’t fit in. So I can relate!
😉
Beautiful pics! Love the colours.
Yes..great pictures.
I live in Norfolk, Virginia USA!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!
I just posted something today called “walking through a rainbow” … but I think you have out-did me! Hahaha – absolutely stunning photos and brilliant colours! I love photography too! Here’s my “rainbow” post. I hope that you will stop by my blog as well! 🙂 Cheers! – http://wp.me/p2dVcp-AV
I like those oddballs among the masses of color.
These photos are simply beautiful. Are the tulip fields only open during a specific season?
Hi Tiffany,
I believe they are only really at their best for around two weeks in April each year.
Chris
Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos. Nice work. Connie

So beautiful! I will definitely have to make a trip to Norfolk next spring!
Brilliant colors. Such a big difference from where I live. For miles around all you can see are cornfields or wheat fields. And then around town there’s the soybean fields. Lovely photos!
O my god, this is simply amazing. This is the contrary to the big city life. NATURE can be so beautiful.
Gorgeous! We have very beautiful Tulip fields up in Mt Vernon Wa. Sad I didn’t make it up there this year!

Are there really tulip fields in Norfolk? I’m from Holland and I really miss seeing the tulip fields in spring. I live in Suffolk, so not too far away. Would love to visit them next spring. Pictures are beautiful by the way.

@Jbot: not just a trade war, but a financial bubble too!
These are lovely! Well done.
I like the pictures that focus on one single tulip in a sea of different colored tulips. They stand out more.
These are such bright and beautiful pictures. Have you framed any of these yet?
I have not framed any yet, I must admit even though I sell lots of my images as framed images for various customers I don’t actually have a single picture of mine on any of the walls at home. I must get round to doing some soon.
Chris
I’m the same way. I Think everyone in my family has one of my pictures on their wall but I don’t have any. My favorite is the purple tulips with one white in the middle. That would be really pretty blown up
Scintillating colours!
Beautiful colours. 😉
I love the colours! Lovely pics.
Some gorgeous shots here!
Beautiful photos. I live just outside Norfolk, VA U.S., and it looks nothing like that here. Congrats on being selected for freshly pressed.
I live near Norfolk, Virginia, too. I checked out your blog thinking that it was a photo of Norfolk, VA–the Botanical Gardens, perhaps. Sometimes I forget that we (your American cousins) named our cities after yours. I went to England years ago and was surprised to see the number of names of towns identical to those in Virginia, such as Bedford, York (County), Gloucester, etc. England is such a magical country. I hope to visit again someday. I posted some photos of English castles on my blog.
Must say that I’m confused by your comment. You seem to be writing to me as though I made this post.
Lovely shots. The vertical photo with the white tulip is my favorite. Well done.
Amazing picture, amazing views…really-really beautiful… I hope one day I’ll be there… looking all those with my eyes…(I wish it’s not only just a dream for me) 🙂
❤❤❤
Everyone else has said it!!!!, but BEAUTIFUL!!!

Just love it!!!!!
Your photos seem effortless and are amazingly beautiful!
Namaste and many blessings***
Imagine an aerial view of this place.
Congratulations on making Freshly Pressed. As someone who grew up in Bungay I lived in Suffolk and could see Norfolk out of the window. Your photos would be brilliant in any blog, but they take me home in a moment.
The colours remind me of the Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy a few weeks ago which I was just moved to blog about – different media but similar emotions. Good luck with the work.
Beautiful!! Remindes me of the ones here in Netherlands.

Just beautiful! I especially appreciate the lone, white tulip in a field of purple…brave one that tulip.
My family live in Norfolk- where are these fields? Sorry if you have already written it and I have missed it. Gorgeous pictures. I had no idea we had tulip fields. I learned the other day we have vineyards as well, outside London, who would have thought it?!
Awesome shots of the Tulips….your area of the world looks a lot like mine…..I went to see our Tulip fields, close to La Conner, WA the end of April this year….it was my first time to see them (other than photographs) since moving to the Pacific Northwest…I was AMAZED…Thanks for sharing……so Beautiful!!

Add your A Tulip for your thoughts…
First time ever that I had been to the UK was a trip to Norwich back in 2000. Must have been kind of the “wrong” time of the year as all I could see was plain and sere autumn (marsh?) land. Thanks for adding a new angle to this, I should go back again in the future – during another season! 🙂
breathtaking!!!

The colors, the symmetry, the composition…
Tulips are one of my favourite flowers, I love that they are both delicate and vibrantly coloured and you have captured the rows of colour beautifully. What a wonderful sight to experience.
Great collections of photographs here. I like the diversity of composition and the great colors that you’ve captured. Well done!
Ah. Memories of Spalding… 🙂 Thank you for posting such beautiful pictures.
Wow, this just looks so beautiful. I just wished i would be there right now. now now. 🙂 Great pictures.
Gorgeous pictures. Whereabouts in Norfolk should we look out for fields of tulips in future years?
Anywhere around the Swaffham area is good. They do sometimes move the fields each year though so it’s just a case of driving around.
They are absolutely beautiful. I was wondering if the still having the fields? i will be on Norfolk in May and I would love to stop by 🙂
Hi sorry Nette, sorry I only just noticed your comments, they were about again this year, but they were much earlier due to the mild winter so they would have been well finished by May. I think they were at there best around the 10th April this year.
Chris
When is the best month to visit tulip field during spring?
April, the Tulips are usually at their best for around a week and the week varies each year. Usually mid to the end of April.
Beautiful images! I’m in Downham Market and looking for a field to capture in the coming days. Do you have any local recommendations?
Hi Chris,
I have only just noticed this post/ They should be about this year again. The fields vary each year in terms of locations but between Swaffham and King’s Lynn there are sometimes some and near the old Iceni village there are usually some.
Cheers Chris. I ended up getting some shots back in April with the help of Mark Eves.
All the best,
CB
